Have I mentioned that I’m a worrywart? Like a really big one? So much so that I try to have a contingency plan for everything. If this happens, I’ll do this. But if it turns out that that happens, I think maybe I’ll do this instead.

Did I mention that my stomach hurts a lot?

I try not to obsess. I try to figure out how I might handle things and then move on from there. But it usually doesn’t work that way. I turn it over and over in my head until my insides are in knots.

I come from a long line of champion worriers, just so you know.

And now, something I haven’t faced in over ten years is rearing its ugly head. The moving monster. We’re talking about moving closer to my husband’s work. The expense is well worth the gas we’ll save. And he works in an area that has a lot to do. Plenty of places to walk, lots of eateries nearby. More interesting things happening.

Not that our current neighborhood isn’t bad. Things are just more spread out there.

It’s not even set in stone yet. Like, at all. We still have to fill out an app and hope we get approved. So we’re in the very beginning stages. Still talking about it stages. But this is most seriously we’ve considered it in a long time. We thought our next move would be back to the Midwest. And that’s still in the cards. We’re hoping this move will actually help us save more money toward that end.

I get a mini panic attack when I look at our place. It’s not large and neither is the other place. The new place would have two bedrooms to our one. Much, much smaller bedrooms. I’m not even sure we’ll gain any square footage at all. But we would have a nicely-sized back patio. And assigned parking. And a cute little community courtyard. And NO STAIRS.

But we’d have to pare down. We’ve been planning it anyway before we move to the Midwest. This would force us to do that much sooner. We’d lose a garage, which is a LOT of storage right there. And we can purge some items, taking others back home when we go at Christmas.

I guess it’s good to be forced to get rid of what we don’t use. Live a bit more simply.

And make all of those decisions within 2-3 weeks. YIKES! Hold me?

Sometimes, as moms, we find it too easy to work. All the time. There’s always so much to do, right? We see everything that’s waiting for us, even if no one else does. And if we don’t get it done, who else will do it?

Right now I’m struggling with balancing everything. I have a lot of projects going, a lot of balls in the air. Fortunately, a bigger project is about ready to end. I’m mostly okay with that.

What it will do is free up my time for other projects. The ones that are getting bits and pieces here and there, rather than a good, solid bit of my attention.

There’s still the balance issue, though. For my sanity, I have to find a way to get my work done so I can spend quality time with my husband and son. That’s important to me.

They don’t need me hunched over my keyboard every evening, because that’s when it’s convenient for me to work (while someone else can watch the baby, natch).

As a work at home mom, I need to set some office hours. That’s a bit close to impossible right now, but I’m hoping I can do that in the next couple of months. I think it would go a long way towards keeping away from burnout.

What about you? Do you over schedule? Are you finding a good balance, or do you need help with this, too?
